What to do
What better way to welcome autumn in Noosa than with the Laguna Real Estate Noosa Festival of Surfing, the biggest surfing event in the world, with its annual 8 days of fun in and out of the water from 4-11 March? All the surfing action is off Noosa’s Main Beach which has just been named Australia’s third best beach in TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards, based on millions of reviews.
There are surfing events for grommets to grandpas, dogs, body surfers, families and pro surfers. And out of the water there’s free entertainment every evening in the beach bar; daily beach yoga to get your body stretching and a wellness event to make everyone feel great.
Now in its 26th year, the festival, which attracts more than 900 surfers from 7 years to 80+ from across the world, plays out in the water and on the shores of Laguna Bay which hugs Noosa’s Main Beach.
The XXXX Summer Beach Bar, right on the sand at Main Beach has free live music, films, talks and presentations - and beautiful sunset views every evening. How we wish the beach bar was there all year round – but having it for just 8 days every year makes it all the more special.
The much-loved VetShopAustralia Surfing Dog Spectacular on Sunday 5 March on Main Beach at 3pm is always a huge crowd favourite. You can also learn how to teach your dog to surf with dog whisperer Chris de Aboitiz from Sup Dog Oz at the free SUP With Your Dog Workshop on Saturday 4 March, 7.30-10.30am at Noosa’s Dog Beach, near the river mouth.
Brush up on your photographic skills with professional photographers; get stretchy each morning from 7am with Noosa Beach Yoga; and get active and healthy and learn how to simply and easily bring health and wellbeing into your life with a day of fitness, nutrition, yoga, pilates and more at Luxe Escapes Noosa’s Wellness Wednesday on 8 March from 7am.
There’s a Beachside Fashion Parade on Thursday 9 March on Noosa Main Beach from 4.30pm as the IN Noosa Fashion App presents fashion from local boutiques. Boutiques featured include: Chloe & Grace, Domini Design, Chuckles & Boo, Holster, Mensroom, Maisie & The Seven Seas and more to be announced.
Or shape your own timber board, handplane or fins with Tom Wegener and friends on Sustainability Friday, hear presentations on the surfing benefits of timber, help build a more sustainable future and be inspired.
New this year is the hinterland Eumundi Experience on Wednesday 8 March with a tour to the Eumundi Markets and lunch at the historic Imperial Hotel.
The kids will have fun at the Festival Kids Day on Tuesday 7 March, 3.30-5.30pm with a sandcastle building competition and workshop, and indigenous music from Circular Rhythm.
Get the Noosa waves all to yourself for the last session on Thursday 9 and Friday 10 March if you are the highest bidder in the Waves of Wellness Solo Session silent auction which supports their mental health program. Visit the XXXX Summer Beach Bar for more info.
