Mt Cooroora overlooks the hinterland town of Pomona, soaring to an impressive 439m. The hike to the summit is challenging, but rewards climbers with a sweeping 360-degree view, including the coastal lakes and dunes of the Cooloola Recreation Area.
Other walking trails will suit various fitness levels including shared trails at the base of the mountain for walkers, horse riders and mountain bike riders.
Be prepared especially in hot weather with a hat, water and sunscreen, and allow adequate time to complete the walk. Suitable, sturdy footwear is recommended as the track has a loose surface and is often slippery.
Mt Cooroora is home to the annual Pomona King of the Mountain Race to the summit and back.
