Noosa Museum is housed in the original Noosa Shire Council Offices (built 1910) in the picturesque country town of Pomona. The Museum was founded by the Cooroora Historical Society in 1985, mainly as a means to preserve what was rapidly disappearing of the past.
The many displays which are exhibited over two floors include the Keeping Place for the Gubbi Gubbi traditional owners, and exhibits of former shire activities such as farming, agriculture, dairying, timber and other industries. There is a vast collection of old bottles, an interesting display of old cameras, toys, and the old Kin Kin telephone switchboard. See how the early settlers lived with displays of bedrooms, kitchens and an early schoolroom.
You can also take a stroll through Cooroora Park to the Gubbi Gubbi Reconciliation Island.
The Museum houses an expansive and impressive collection of photographs capturing many moments of the pioneering past, as well as modern moments that will one day be an important part of local history. There is a library of books about the Noosa Shire and newspapers dating back to the early 20th Century.
The public is welcome to look
through the library, photographs and historical records. Please note
that fees are payable for photocopying and for any research work
undertaken by museum staff. The museum is fully wheelchair accessible.
