To recognise and celebrate the Kabi Kabi peoples connection to Noosa, a unique telling of their own welcome to country has been created in a powerful 6-minute virtual audiovisual experience.
Kabi Kabi traditional custodians Lyndon Davis, Jacquie Sandy, Jaiva Davis and Yeelara Chilly from Gubbi Gubbi Dance, share their local knowledge and amazing stories at 7pm every evening outside the Visitor Information Centre in Hastings Street.
Australia has a rich indigenous culture dating back more than 50,000 years, making it one of the oldest living cultures on earth. Noosa is home to the Kabi Kabi people whose land stretches roughly 100km south and 150km north of Noosa.
What connects all indigenous people is a strong link to their natural environment, landscapes and past and future generations. Their series of stories and experiences are unique to each place. This is Noosa's story.
The video projection was made possible through a grant to Tourism Noosa from the Queensland Government Community Benefit Fund, and Tourism Noosa has worked closely with the Kabi Kabi Native Title Applicants who are the Directors for the Kabi Kabi People’s Aboriginal Corporation, to form an IP Agreement to produce this unique Welcome to Country audiovisual experience.
