Ladies in Black at Noosa Arts Theatre is a musical based on the novel by Madeleine St John, written by Carolyn Burns and music by the prolific Tim Finn.
The story is set in Sydney in the 1950s, in an elegant department store, F.G. Goodes. Lisa who is about to leave school and hopefully enter university gets a summer job in Goodes and meets many interesting characters along the way. These include recent European migrants to the country who broaden her cultural education.
It's a wonderful story about resilience and empowerment and serves as a poignant reflection on the complexities of women's lives during a pivotal time in history for women.
The music is magnificent as only Tim Finn can write, ranging from beautiful ballads through to boppy jazz-infused songs guaranteed to have the audiences singing them way after they leave the theatre.
Ladies in Black is a musical for the ages and whether you're a fan of musical theatre or just looking for a fabulous story with great songs and costumes, be sure not to miss this great show.
Directed by Ian Mackellar.
