Noosa is leading the charge to be Australia’s first Plastic Free community.
Places where people want to visit and live and that are sustainable don’t happen by chance - they are a product of visionary thinking and smart planning, and this community program highlights Noosa’s commitment to reducing single-use plastic. Plastic Free Noosa aims to help local businesses, residents and visitors to Noosa easily eliminate single-use plastics from their everyday life.
In response to the single-use plastic bans by the Queensland State Government in 2021, Plastic Free Noosa has revised the member criteria to expand beyond our initial priority items, and now aim to support and encourage members to work towards zero waste.
MEMBER CRITERIA
- Eliminate Target Item: Single Use Plastic Water Bottles
- Eliminate Target Item: Single Use Take-Away Coffee Cups & Lids
- Recycle Common Waste & Redeem With Containers For Change
- Accept Reusable Foodware & Drinkware
- Source Wholesale Products in Plastic Free or Sustainable Packaging
- Compost Organics
- Use & provide Refillable Amenities
Businesses who achieve two out of seven criteria (plus are working towards others) are welcomed as members, those who achieve five of the seven criteria items achieve Champion Status! Keep an eye out when you are visiting for businesses proudly displaying their Plastic Free Noosa Member or Champion stickers and Certificates.
